Spread spectrum is the name for a variety of techniques that are used to spread a signal in the frequency domain, resulting in a wider signal.

Methods

There are different methods for Spread Spectrum modulation. The main ones are listed below.

  • Frequency-hopping spread spectrum
  • Direct-sequence spread spectrum
  • Chirp spread spectrum

Advantages

There are many advantages to a modulation scheme that uses spread spectrum, and this can be seen in the popularity of the technique in modern communications.

Challenges

While there are many advantages of using spread spectrum, there are also some challenges. One such challenge is the synchronization.
